Wild Harvest are delighted to once again be providing a comprehensive 2.5 hour foraging walk by our picturesque canal at East Cottingwith, YO42

as part of the Walking East Yorks Festival.   During this walk you will discover the advantages of learning about the free, healthy, local wild food around you plus gain an understanding of some of the cautions to be aware of before starting to forage.  You will then go on to meet around 18 plants; some common, and some lesser known edibles.

Full details of where to meet given upon booking.  Loo available at Wild Harvest School at the end of the walk.

Date: Sunday 7th September, 2025

Time: 2.30pm - 5pm

Location:  East Cottingwith Canal, YO42 Park near the village hall.

We will walk in all weathers apart from gale so please bring:

Drink, comfy footware, shower proof jacket, sun hat (because it's England and it can shower or shine!)

Children under 14 are FREE and do not need a ticket.  Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome.

 Your Tutor

Your walk leader is Di Hammill Page from Wild Harvest School who has been teaching foraging for 20 years.  A qualified adult education lecturer and member of the Association of Foragers, she still loves teaching after 25 years; and is enthusiastic about introducing you to the amazing natural resources around you.

Walking East Yorkshire Festival

Established and Reliable

We have been around since 2006, one of the longest serving sustainable education businesses. We deliberately don't apply for grants so that we know we can keep teaching into tomorrow. Book us and we will be there. Proven track record of 100% turn up rate.

Affordable

We believe this education should be accessible and aim to price to cover our costs and pay our taxes but also be affordable to you. Sustainable education should not be an elite subject but should be accessible to all. We are not grant funded though so please don't expect us to compete with free temporary initiatives using public money.

Sustainable

Since 2006 eco principles have been at the heart of what we do. It's not a new marketing angle for us; our courses are based upon the original values and lifestyle of our founder who has long lived a life of sustainability and self-reliance.

Some of our F.A.Q

Got a Question...?

Where are you based?

We are based in the rural outskirts of York, 12 miles from the city, but we.do work all over. If you are coming here for your glamping, activities or walks/course then we can be found on Google maps HERE

or Apple Maps HERE

Can I Bring My Dog?

To the wild food walks yes, well behaved dogs on leads are welcome. To the tipi site... Sorry we love animals but we. have a free range sheep, hens and an old labrador. Plus we have a policy of no animals in the units to keep them feeling fresh and ok for allergy sufferers. We are down the road from Storwood Kennels if you need pet boarding.

What if I Can't Make It?

We know you wouldn't want us to cancel on you and hope that you see we book tutors, organise resources and block time out for bookings so we allow you to sell your space on, or gift it to a friend. Or we can offer you online courses and ebooks instead.

What Areas Do You Cover?

If you want to book us to come to you...Our radius for attended walks, courses and activities bookings is approximately from Newcastle in the North to Nottingham in the South, Hull in the East to Manchester in the West. if in doubt just ask in the chat box or enquiry form.

  • Long Established

We have stood the test of time. Established in 2006 we are nearly 20 years old! We have survived pandemics and recessions and are still here. Read our reviews as testimony to how hard we work to keep you happy! Others have come and gone but we are still strong through our professionalism, quality of service for the price, and resilience.

  • Support Female-Led Independent Small Business.

Wild Harvest was set up by a single mum of three... slowly building a business around her children, without any help. No grants, no Daddy's purse strings - just hard work and dedication and determination to provide affordable sustainable education.

  • Reliable - Book Us and We WILL Be There!

Over all our time we have not cancelled a single session. If we commit to being there we will be there. I cringe when I see other teaching businesses cancel for personal reasons regularly letting people down and I truly believe in honouring your booking with my effort to get us there.

  • Quality of Service Combined with Value For Money

Here you will find qualified thorough tutors, and natural, local materials yet we remain more affordable than our competitors due to our mission to provide sustainable education to ALL. This affordable quality in offering services that Don't Cost the Earth is what has kept us going for two decades!
